Laboratorium Bahasa (Lab Bahasa) Udayana University was established in 1974 but in 1996, its status was changed into Language Service Unit (UPT Lab Bahasa) which was intended to be more independent in terms of income generation and its management. Since its establishment, UPT Lab Bahasa Unud or Language Centre (LC) has been better of in terms of its performance operationally and physically. In the former case, the LC has shown more of its professionalism as it has begun to focus its services not only internally (within the university) but also externally (outside the university). Admittedly, the LC has drawn a lot of benefit from this kind of service. At the initial stage of its development as UPT, the Lab Bahasa’s building located near the front gate of the university is extremely old. Thanks to its being financially independent and having better management, the LC was able to reconstruct it into a new two-story building . Indeed, the UPT has made radical change to its development. It has offered more programs than ever before. The new programs include the One-Year English Certificate Program, the BIPA (Indonesian as Foreign Language (IFL)) program, TOEFL preparation and (Local) TOEFL test, and Institutional TOEFL, General English, English For Specific Purpose(ESP) and English for Academic Purpose (EAP)
